“Come down off your throne and leave your body alone, somebody must change. You are the reason I’ve been waiting all these years. Somebody holds the key. Well, I’m near the end but just ain’t got the time. And I’m wasted and I can’t find my way home.”
– Steve Winwood

There is a place we are all searching to find. It feels like home. It feels like total acceptance and rest. We take part in endeavors – – work, hobbies, church, travel…and we are searching for something that feels safe.

Something that feels easy and flows. Sometimes you find it in the people you connect with. Sometimes you find it in your experience, your senses  – the cool ocean breeze, the taste of the wine on your palate, the hymnal, the sounds of the bustling city or swoosh of the snow under your skis.

I often find that home at music festivals. It’s the participation of a like-minded group of people there for the good music and the positive energy. Everyone facing the stage, nonjudgement, pure enjoyment.

I took my family to the local Albino Skunk Music Fest this weekend. I have been to the festival over the years for a few hours at a time but never set up camp with the family and just took it all in. For a few days, it felt like home.

There is a sense of freedom at an event like this. Ironically it was last year at this festival that my partner and I sat under a beautiful oak tree (shade for us planted many years ago 😉) and made the final decision to go fully independent with our business. We celebrated our anniversary this year over a beer and a smile. It’s been a great year.

Because our team has the common desire to support and enjoy live music, we decided last year to sponsor the inaugural Hampton-Pinckney Porch Festival. This is a one-day festival (in literally my back yard) in October in the historic district of Hampton Pinkney downtown Greenville. Local musicians take the stage on neighbors’ porches. It’s a free event and open to the public.

This kind of collaboration of our community is exactly what we try to cultivate and create in our own work. We love to share with our clients what relieves our stress, helps us feel free and brings us joy.

At the end of the day, it’s not just about the money, it’s about what matters and what feels like home. So Be Bold, cultivate joy and Love your Life!
