Planting Trees, Building Wealth

Warren Buffet once said, “Someone is sitting in the shade today because someone planted a tree a long time ago.”

I learned about money and investing from my grandmother. She and my grandfather planted the trees. Strong work ethic and prudent money management were passed down even a generation before theirs. They lived through world wars and various economic conditions. Yet, they were disciplined in their approach. They never had debt. They saved. They bought assets.

My Gammy lived through the Great Depression, so she drove her big white Cadillac across town to save 3 cents per gallon on gas.

We all have different money stories and subsequent money behaviors. Whatever our backgrounds, we all desire to live abundant lives. We want to reach a place of comfort, where our needs are met and perhaps we can accumulate for the future goals we set for ourselves and our families. Whether a home purchase, our kid’s college education, set annual travel to our favorite beach and of course the ever looming retirement. All of these goals have financial demands attached to them. We have to make a plan. The earlier the better.

As a Certified Financial Planner ® , I create goals based plans for most of the clients for which we manage investment portfolios. The planning context informs the investments decisions But there is great value in having a plan at an earlier stage in life. In fact, most of the boxes we need to check to get to a place of “wealth” which I interpret as “options in life” are not so easy to organize and endeavor without some informed guidance.

This is why we started a program called Wealth Builders. For a nominal planning fee, clients have access to our financial planning and risk management tools, an experienced CFP advisor and team’s weekly insights and education. We meet several times initially to get the ball rolling or the tree in the ground and then annually to make sure they are on track.

This is why we started a program called Wealth Builders.

Wealth Builders program will allow you to see where you are now, think about and focus on where you want to go and pave a path to get there. We are here to do some of the digging for you. We offer advice, education and accountability along the way. Ultimately, we want you to Be Bold and Love your Life!

An investment portfolio is a basket of assets that can hold stocks, bonds, cash and more. Investors aim for a return by mixing these securities in a way that reflects their risk tolerance and financial goals. There are many different types of investment portfolios, as some are built into 401(k)s, IRAs and annuities
